Wednesday (12/4) - Warmup, Timings, Trimester Pre-Test Part 3 (Excel Spreadsheet portion) - Last Day for Pre=tests WOOHOO!!

Thursday (12/5) - Discuss the Internet & Google. How it works, why it works, how to search. What do extensions tell us about websites? what about the files we use everyday?Reviewed File Extensions, Domain extensions
File extensions indicate what program was used to create the file. For example:
.doc --> Microsoft Word 1997-2003 .docx --> Microsoft Word 2007 .ppt --> Powerpoint 1997-2003 .pptx--> Powerpoint 2007 .mp3 --> audio file, Windows Media, IPod .avi --> video file, Windows Media You cannot open an audio or video file with a word processing program. You can INSERT the file into a document however. |
Domain extensions indicate the type of website. For example:
.com --> commercial .edu --> education (higher education) .net --> network .gov --> government agency .org --> usually a non-profit organization .jobs --> corporate or company indicator Domain extensions help you determine validity of the information on the site and helps to identify the website's purpose. |
Friday (12/6) - Reviewed more Google strategies, conducted some in-class searches. Spent time working on a Google Scavenger Hunt using the Google FEATURES page. This assignment can be found using the link above and is under Quest #2: Safe Search
